Day #7 of The Captive Imposter Blog Tour

Have you ever wondered how an author sees their characters? For the most part I dont usually have a clear idea of who my hero and heroine look like until I’m almost finished writing/completing the book. I try to focus primarily on what’s happening on the inside of the characters. Then, as they are finally growing into the oneness of their relationship, I can better see their physical traits.

 {yes, you have to pretend that Nathan has blond hair...}

This Weeks Reviews
of The Captive Imposter

One thing Ive come to love about Ms. Crandalls writing is her ability to create palpable romantic tension. You cant help but swoon a little (or a lot!) when you read the interactions between Dexter and Estella.”
 ~ Sarah, Amazon 5-star Reviewer

I cannot express how much I enjoy Dawn’s writing style.  How the first person POV draws me so deeply into her stories and into her main character.
~ Aerykah, Expressions of Me.

Estella fought the social expectations of her time and status, longing to be seen for who she was as a person and not for her wealth. I suspect there are many who fight the same struggles today, whether due to wealth or the lack of it.
~ Sarah Ruut, Faith, Fictions & Fun

Dawns character depictions are the best. She doesnt pile it all on about how they look nor does she continuously bring to point how good looking they are so you miss the whole story line.
~ Nicki Olsen, Confessions of a Teenage Bookworm

I understood Estella’s questions of/about/for God and related so closely in my own life that this book ended up deeply personal for me. When I say I cried, I really cried, not just a lone tear. When a book makes me feel that strongly, I love it!
~ Katie Edgar, Katie’s Life of Books.

Aside from her superb and compelling writing style, the detail and attention to which Crandall infuses her setting demonstrates just how much she loves this area. I have never been to Maine but have no doubt that my imaginings of the state are just what Crandall wants her readers to see.
~ Marisa Deshaise, A Way with Words

Crandall rocked the first person narrative and I while I often found myself at odds with her characters, I cant deny my appreciation for the style and tone of her work.
~ Erin Davies reviewed The Hesitant Heiress, Flashlight Commentary

    1. It was either her first or second book--I got it back when I'd only read her debut novel. A LOOOOONG time age, my mother-in-law took me to the Christian Bookstore near her house and had me pick out a book--and this was the one I chose! I suppose it was a brand-new release at the time. :)

    1. I met her at my first national writing conference, and she went around the table asking my friends and I (who were all new, unpublished writers at the time) what we wrote and where we were from! She was so nice! That was what made me go find her books. :) I'd heard of her before, but that one-on-one connection really makes a difference.

  16. I just finished all three of your books (loved!) but Ms. Witemeyer and Ms Dobson's books are still on my to-read list. I just followed on Pinterest and saw that you have a #4 Vance and Violet board. Very happy to see that :)

    1. Hi Shannon! Thank you so much for reading my books! I'm so glad you enjoyed them! :) And yes, I've always planned to write Vance's book, but I didn't pitch it in the series when my agent submitted it to publishers. It will be next though! I have it outlined and ready to go once this crazy blog tour is finished! AND it will be the first FULL book I'll have to write with the baby around! I wrote half of The Captive Imposter before I was pregnant, about 4-5 chapters while pregnant, and what was left in December and January when he was 9-10 months old. I don't remember how I did it!

  20. I have not read any Melanie Dobson books yet, but they're on my to-be-read list. I have read all of Karen Witemeyer's books (except the novellas) and loved every single one of them. I especially liked when one of Karen's books included Galveston, TX. I'm hoping it will be an even more prominent feature in other books of hers!
